- Vent plug: Algunas tablas tienen venteo. Si está tapado, puede acumular agua. Preguntá si fue guardada correctamente.

Buying used wingfoil gear in Argentina can save you between USD 1,000 and USD 1,500 compared to buying new. But you could also end up with a wing that won't inflate, a foil with hidden corrosion, or a board with internal cracks. This guide teaches you what to check on each component before closing the deal.
1. The wing: the most important part
The wing is the component that wears out the most with use. Check:
- Seams and bladders: Fully inflate the wing and leave it for 30 minutes. If it loses pressure, it's leaking. Check the leading edge seams and struts with soapy water.
- Valves: Press the valve and make sure it closes properly. Broken valves are cheap to replace, but the seller should have done it already.
- Fabric: Look for porosity (the fabric looks translucent against light), patched tears, or extreme UV discolouration.
- Handles and strut: Check that the handles aren't coming unstitched and that the central strut has no permanent creases.
2. The board: check for water inside
- The knock test: Gently knock the board with your knuckles across the whole surface. A hollow, dry sound is normal. A dull, "dead" sound points to delamination or water inside.
- Foil box: The most critical spot. Move the installed mast: there should be zero play. If there's sideways movement, the box is loose — an expensive repair.
- Rails: Check the board's edges for cracks, especially around the foil box. Small cracks can be repaired, but if they're large or the fibre is lifted, negotiate the price.
- Vent plug: Some boards have venting. If it's blocked, water can build up. Ask if it was stored properly.
3. The foil: check for corrosion
- Screws and connections: Check that every screw goes in and out smoothly. Galvanic corrosion between aluminium and steel is the most common problem. Seized screws = a foil you can't assemble.
- Front wing and stabiliser: Look for dings on the leading edges. A small ding can be repaired; a big one on the front wing hurts performance.
- Mast: Check that it isn't bent (lay it on a flat surface and see if it sits evenly). Check the condition of the connection slots.
- Fuselage: Check the connections with the mast and the wings. No play, no corrosion.
